Bears' Matt Nagy confirms Andy Dalton is Week 1 starting QB

The Chicago Bears have been nothing if not consistent as it pertains to their quarterback situation throughout the spring.

Former Cincinnati Bengals starter and Dallas Cowboys backup Andy Dalton said in March one reason he signed with the Bears during the offseason was that he was told he was Chicago's QB1, and head coach Matt Nagy has insisted the Bears acquiring Ohio State Buckeyes star signal-caller Justin Fields in the first round of this year's draft hasn't altered the top of the depth chart at the position.

Nagy reiterated his point during a recent appearance on Cris Collinsworth’s podcast.

"No, I mean, Andy is our starter," Nagy explained, according to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk. "Again, I can’t predict anything. You know how it goes. There’s so many things that can happen between today and that Week 1, but Andy is our starter and Justin is our No. 2 and we’re going to stick to this plan. You always hope nothing happens to Andy as far as injuries or anything like that and that’s why I can’t say 100 percent . . . Andy is where we want him to be, he’s had a great OTAs and we’re just gonna continue to build with that."

Nagy must understand why the topic keeps generating headlines, particularly as Fields has previously admitted he wants "to do everything I can to get that starting job." Dalton knows he's the starter today, but that likely will change if the Bears possess a losing record around Thanksgiving Day, if not sooner.
