Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger had good reason to embrace some grooming.

While still recovering from elbow surgery that ended his 2019 season after only two weeks of action, Roethlisberger declared in a video shared on Twitter that he was not shaving his beard or cutting his hair until he was able to throw what he deemed to be NFL-quality passes.

According to ESPN's Brooke Pryor, Big Ben got himself a shave and haircut after he spent time working out with teammates Ryan Switzer, JuJu Smith-Schuster and James Conner at Quaker Valley High School in Leetsdale, Penn.

Pryor added that the Steelers expect the 38-year-old two-time Super Bowl champion will be ready to return under center for the start of the 2020 season. The club has not yet released an official update on Roethlisberger's status.

In late April, reports surfaced that the coronavirus pandemic could force the NFL to push the start of the campaign back Sept. 10 to early or mid-October. The league hasn't yet announced any changes to its preseason or regular-season calendars.

One would think Roethlisberger would accept a few extra weeks to ensure his arm is 100 percent and ready to face NFL defenses during the fall.
