Joe Burrow seems like he is constantly trending on Twitter these days for both his play on the field and swagger off of it, but the Cincinnati Bengals star is rarely active on social media. He recommends that young athletes follow his lead in that department.
Burrow spoke with the media on Monday ahead of Super Bowl LVI. He was asked if he has any advice that he would give to young athletes, and he shared a great response. The quarterback encouraged kids to “work in silence” and let their performance speak for them.
“Don’t show everybody what you’re doing,” Burrow said. “Let your game on Friday nights and Saturday nights and Sunday nights show all of the hard work you put in. Don’t worry about all of that social media stuff.”
That’s some useful advice, and it should mean a lot coming from a 25-year-old quarterback who won a national title in college and is already set to make a Super Bowl appearance. Social media can be a huge distraction. Players should be driven to capture attention as a result of their play.
Burrow may come across as flashy with some of the outfits and accessories he wears, but he insists that has nothing to do with seeking approval. His message to young athletes is further evidence of that.
