Bengals WR A.J. Green signs franchise tender

If the NFL opens training camp on July 28 amid the worsening coronavirus pandemic, Cincinnati Bengals superstar wide receiver A.J. Green will be in attendance.

On Friday, Cincinnati announced the seven-time Pro Bowl wideout, who turns 32 years old at the end of the month, signed his franchise-tag tender.

Per ESPN, Green will earn $18.2 million for the 2020 campaign.

Green committed his long-term future to the only NFL home he's known since he entered the league in 2011 while speaking with the club's website.

"I've got the same mindset. I want to play another four years and I hope to retire as a Bengal," Green said. "There were never harsh words. I understand there's a business side of it. For me, I just want to play football."

Rookie quarterback and first overall pick Joe Burrow will hope Green is fully healthy whenever games begin. A toe injury sidelined Green for seven outings in 2018, and he missed the entire 2019 season after he tore multiple ligaments in his left ankle during training camp.
