Eric Fisher Fits Miami’s Offense

Eric Fisher is one of the three best linemen free agents still unsigned. Fisher started for the Kansas City Chiefs for eight seasons. The Chiefs drafted him first overall, and he made two Pro Bowls. He signed a one-year deal with Indianapolis Colts in 2021. Why is one of the best linemen free agents still unsigned? His rating, while not up to his Pro Bowl years, still was better than any Dolphins starter last year. His decline as a pass blocker hurts him with most teams, but Miami’s offense runs to set up the pass. Asking him to backup Terron Armstead and be an insurance policy may not make sense to him, especially given he made $9.4 million last year. The Dolphins still should be interested in what he could do to help improve their running game.

JC Tretter Makes Sense for Dolphins at Center

Even more shocking than Fisher being unsigned is that JC Tretter has not been. The Cleveland Browns and Green Bay Packers center averaged making a little more than $5.5 million over his last contract. His durability was not an issue last year either. He was the highest rated of the best linemen free agents still without a contract. Picking him up moves Connor Williams back to guard, his natural position. His signing would not be costly and could put Miami’s offensive line closer to the top half of the NFL.

Would Duane Brown Take A Pay Cut?

Duane Brown made $11.5 million last year, nearly as much as Fisher and Tretter combined. He also rated lower than both of them in 2021. Not only that but the Seattle Seahawks offensive line ranked 25th last year. Brown’s age 37, and the fact that he plays tackle, Armstead’s position, means Brown likely signs with the Dolphins as a backup. Would he be willing to take a pay cut? Even at his age he still was better than any Dolphins starter last year. Considering how poor the line was last year they could use all the help they can get.
