Bills' Damar Hamlin discharged from hospital, heading home

Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin has taken yet another important step in his incredible recovery.

The Bills confirmed Wednesday that Hamlin has been discharged from Buffalo General Medical Center/Gates Vascular Institute. He was admitted Monday shortly after he was released from the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, and the Bills added the 24-year-old "went through a comprehensive medical evaluation as well as a series of cardiac, neurological and vascular testing on Tuesday."

Hamlin offered an update on his condition via social media on Tuesday afternoon:

In total, Hamlin was hospitalized for over a week after he went into cardiac arrest during Buffalo's prime-time game at the Cincinnati Bengals on Jan. 2. That contest was suspended, postponed and ultimately canceled.

"We have completed a series of tests and evaluations, and in consultation with the team physicians, we are confident that Damar can be safely discharged to continue his rehabilitation at home and with the Bills," Dr. Jamie Nadler said for the Bills' release.

It was learned last Thursday that Hamlin was awake, able to communicate with doctors and showing significant signs of improvement. He was active on Twitter and watching from a hospital bed as Buffalo earned a 35-23 victory over the New England Patriots this past Sunday.

The Bills finished the regular season at 13-3 and in possession of the conference's No. 2 playoff seed. Buffalo hosts the Miami Dolphins (9-8) in a wild-card postseason matchup Sunday afternoon, and Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio pointed out it's possible Hamlin could make some sort of appearance either before or at that game.
