The Washington Commanders have yet to announce a new head coach, but Boomer Esiason says one person is a “lock” to get the job.

Esiason said on his morning radio show on WFAN Wednesday that the Commanders are going to hire Ben Johnson as their new head coach. Johnson is the Detroit Lions’ offensive coordinator, and Esiason raved about the coach. Esiason termed Johnson the “best coach available.”

The Lions are scheduled to play in the NFC Championship Game on Sunday, so no announcements about Johnson’s status can be made until after his current team’s season ends. But Johnson being hired by the Commanders would not be a surprise.

Johnson has been linked to the Commanders all month.

In addition to the Commanders, Johnson has had interviews with the Panthers, Seahawks, Chargers and Falcons. The Chargers have already filled their vacancy by hiring Jim Harbaugh, but the other four teams still have vacancies.
