Is Bill Belichick's paranoia working against him landing another HC job?

Free-agent coach Bill Belichick likes to keep things close to the vest; or in his case, close to the hoodie.

However, his penchant for keeping those who need to be "in the know" as small as possible may be working against him as he searches for a new employer, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

“Some believe, as previously noted, that Belichick has little interest in coaching a team in a major media market,” Florio said. “As one source explained it over the weekend, that comes from a desire to avoid the dynamic of reporters aggressively trying to develop sources at any and all levels of the organization. The fewer the number of reporters covering a team, the less Belichick has to worry about reporters cozying up to people he otherwise needs to trust to zip it.”

As of Wednesday, the Atlanta Falcons are the only team that Belichick is known to have interviewed with.

Though multiple reports have indicated that the Falcons, who were one the front-runner to land the six-time Super Bowl champion, have recently backed off their pursuit of Belichick, who was expected to be the hottest free agent on the coaching market.

Since the end of the regular season, the Las Vegas Raiders (Antonio Pearce), Los Angeles Chargers (Jim Harbaugh), New England Patriots (Jerod Mayo) and Tennessee Titans (Brian Callahan) have filled their head-coaching vacancies.

The Falcons, Carolina Panthers, Seattle Seahawks and Washington Commanders are the only remaining openings right now, and if Belichick’s reported desire to avoid major markets is true, that would seemingly narrow his options down to Atlanta and Carolina.
