It's been five years since Cole Beasley last played for the Dallas Cowboys, but he is still looking out for his hometown team. And Saquon Barkley, as it happens, is about to start looking for a team as well.

On Friday, Beasley attempted to give the Cowboys a head start on their free-agency recruitment, with the key word there being "attempted." The 34-year-old receiver did so by giving New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley a simple reason why he should come to Dallas, that being that he would get to play New York twice a year.

"@saquon I need you to go to Dallas. Getting to run it up on your old team who disrespected you is rejuvenating," Beasley wrote on X. (See more here.)

And Barkley has a series of responses and general thoughts on the idea ...

At first glance? Unfortunately for Beasley, and anyone else who wanted to see Barkley with a star on his helmet, he didn't get very far with his pitch. Barkley replied soon after with a series of laughing emojis while adding "miss my dawg," referencing the brief time the two spent together with the Giants this season.

In response, Beasley bluntly said "It was fun while it lasted ... haha."

But ... While Beasley's attempt to lure Barkley to Dallas may have been in vain (at least it appears so), he may be on to something in regards to the Cowboys' plans in free agency. With Tony Pollard, a pending free agent, regressing as the feature back this season, it seems plausible that the Cowboys would be in the market for another running back.

So, what does Barkley think about Dallas?

He is telling Heavy Sports that he's envious of the Eagles and the Cowboys, noting that Dallas "whooped'' the Giants twice this year. He's also got flattery for the AT&T Stadium experience ...

"Jerry World is ... bright lights, dope stadium,'' he said to with Complex.

The Cowboys just got done spending $10 million for one year on Pollard. They seem unlikely to do that again. Would the price tag on Barkley be similarly prohibitive? Maybe. But would Dallas - three straight years a playoff participant - give him something that New York rarely has?

“Nothing like playoff football!'' Barkley recently tweeted. "I gotta get back!!”

That doesn't have anything to do with Beasley. But if Barkley finds "bright lights, dope stadium'' and playoffs as draws? Maybe this is more than just a silly Twitter exchange.
