On the eve of training camp, the Denver Broncos' quarterback room is smaller by one. The team announced Tuesday it has waived QB Jarrett Guarantano.

In corresponding roster moves, the Broncos signed kicker Brett Maher (as previously reported) and wide receiver Nick Williams.

Guarantano, undrafted out of Washington State in 2022, joined Denver last December following a stint on the Arizona Cardinals' practice squad. He was initially signed to the Broncos' taxi squad but later earned a promotion to the active roster, serving as the third-stringer behind Russell Wilson and Brett Rypien.

"He has some really good intangibles," then-Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett said of Guarantano. "His ability to throw the football is very good. He has very good athleticism up to this point."

Those intangibles evidently carried Guarantano throughout the 2023 offseason program, but the writing was on the wall when Denver added a pair of new QBs, Jarrett Stidham and Ben DiNucci — the former in March, the latter in May.

Stidham, who inked a two-year free-agent deal, figures to open the regular season as Wilson's backup, with DiNucci potentially landing on the practice squad, pending the results of their impending camp competition.
