Brother of Giants Super Bowl champion sues team

Byron Marshall, the brother of former New York Giants Super Bowl champion Leonard Marshall, has filed a lawsuit against the franchise. Byron Marshall is suing the Giants over a matter in which his brother barred him from attending his Ring of Honor induction last September stemming from personal reasons.

NJ Advance Media's Darryl Slater has reported that "Marshall is seeking a "to be determined" amount of money for compensatory and punitive damages—plus 'to be determined' cash for pain and suffering."

When Byron Marshall initially proposed the lawsuit back in February, he told Slater he wanted $10 million and a lifetime supply of Giants season tickets. The lawsuit that was filed on Wednesday in the United States District Court of New Jersey contains no mention of a $10 million demand or a desire for Giants season tickets.

Leonard Marshall has not spoken on the matter since the lawsuit's filing, but did inform Slater in February that the then-potential lawsuit was "meritless" and "frivolous."

Christopher C. Roberts, the attorney who is representing Byron Marshall in this matter, spoke with NJ Advance Media on Thursday, claiming “My client feels that he’s been wronged by the Giants—and that he's been defamed."

Leonard Marshall, 61, was selected by the Giants in the second round of the 1983 NFL Draft. The LSU product went on to play 10 seasons with the G-Men, racking up two Super Bowl victories, two Pro Bowl berths and multiple Second-Team All-Pro selections.

The ferocious edge rusher's 79.5 sacks with the Giants rank behind only Lawrence Taylor's 132.5 and Michael Strahan's 141.5 for the most in franchise history.
