When the Cleveland Browns look in the past, they hope that year one for Deshaun Watson was a feel-it-out kind of year after being out of football for two seasons. The plan is for Deshaun Watson to take a major step in year two.

Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski explained at the NFL meetings that he thinks Watson will be more comfortable in year two. He pointed to it being a new offense for Watson and his new teammates.

"There's no substitute for reps," Stefanski said.

There is no substitute for practice reps or game reps. So I think all of those are valuable."

Watson shared partial training camp reps with Jacoby Brissett, then missed 11 weeks of in-season reps while he was serving his suspension. Watson came back to take first-team reps the week prior to the Browns' 12th game.

One thing that is a major part of Watson being a top-tier quarterback again is the mental side. Watson has to be a commander on the field and know what is going on.

"The quarterback will always have a huge amount of input in what we do. I think you guys have heard me say it before, there's no shortage of plays," Stefanski said.

There are many plays we can draw up. You always want to give the quarterback stuff that he is comfortable with."

Stefanski went on to say that Watson did some of this last year. That is something that he is expected to be more complete at in year two.

"There was times last year where Deshaun made great adjustments to what we were doing. He always has that ability, I think when he becomes more comfortable in this system he will know when and where to do that more."
