Browns QB Baker Mayfield: 'We still have everything in front of us'

The Cleveland Browns, specifically general manager Andrew Berry and head coach Kevin Stefanski, have insisted Baker Mayfield is their starting quarterback as long as he's cleared by the club's medical staff despite any lingering shoulder and lower-body injuries he may be carrying into this Sunday's crucial home game against the first-place Baltimore Ravens.

Cleveland fell to Baltimore 16-10 on Nov. 28 ahead of the bye and now trails the Ravens by two games in the AFC North standings. Mayfield spoke with reporters Wednesday and, per Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk, commented that he's "confident where I’m at, where we’re at, and where we’re headed" going into what most would consider to be a must-win clash.

"That’s kind of the mentality we went into it the last two weeks, is we still have everything in front of us," Mayfield added. "But now it’s crunch time. Everybody’s talking about playoffs, but we need to have that singular focus, block out everything else, and realize that we need to take care of business one day and one week at a time."

Mayfield completed just 18-of-37 passes (48.7%) for 247 yards and a touchdown with a lost fumble in the defeat at Baltimore on the final Sunday night of November. The first overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft likely will have to play better if he's to guide the Browns to a 7-6 record and keep them in the playoff hunt for at least another week.
