Browns snapped long streak of futility in walk-off win over Ravens
The Cleveland Browns overcame a 17-3 deficit to stun the Baltimore Ravens in Week 10, 33-31, snapping an incredible streak of futility in the process.
According to ESPN Stats and Info, the Browns had lost 24 straight games in which they trailed by 14 or more points. It's Cleveland's first win when trailing by at least two touchdowns since Week 3 of the 2018 season when a debuting quarterback named Baker Mayfield out-dueled first-year QB Sam Darnold in a 21-17 Browns victory over the New York Jets.
Down 24-17 in the fourth quarter on Sunday, the Browns outscored the Ravens 16-7 in the final stanza but didn't take their first lead until a walk-off 40-yard field goal by Dustin Hopkins with zeros on the clock.
Following a tough start, which included throwing a pick-six to Ravens safety Kyle Hamilton two plays into the game, Browns QB Deshaun Watson was much better in the second half. After halftime, Watson completed all 14 of his passing attempts, throwing for 134 yards and a touchdown while orchestrating an 11-play, 58-yard game-winning field-goal drive.
The Browns may have never gotten a shot at the come-from-behind win if not for a massive play by their defense near the midway point of the fourth quarter. After a holding penalty took away an interception on the Ravens' previous drive, cornerback Greg Newsome II picked off a deflected pass from Ravens QB Lamar Jackson before returning it 34 yards for a touchdown, cutting the Baltimore lead to 31-30.
Since splitting their first four games, the Browns have won five of their last seven and are within striking distance of the top spot in the AFC North. The 6-3 Browns are now tight on the heels of the 7-3 Ravens, who susutained only their second loss since Week 4.
