No matter how much things seemingly change, they still can stay the same. That is the case when it comes to the backup quarterback position for the Cleveland Browns.
The Browns are signing veteran PJ Walker back to the active roster. Walker returned to Cleveland’s practice squad not too long ago following the team’s decision to waive him. This was mostly a procedural move at the time, as the Browns needed to clear a spot for Joe Flacco, with Walker being the obvious candidate to be let go.
This is following a hip injury to regular backup Dorian Thompson-Robinson. Thompson-Robinson exited Sunday’s win with an injury, and having their next game in just two days, there is concern about his availability.
Cleveland has a short week, and if Thompson-Robinson cannot go, they will need someone to back up Flacco. Ideally, Walker does not see the field. His play has been below average at best and absolutely terrible at worst. The Browns were able to win games while Walker was playing, but that was not because of his play. Cleveland’s defense was doing a ton of heavy lifting, while Walker was making their jobs more difficult along the way with his poor play.
Should something happen to Flacco during Thursday’s contest, the Browns would be back to where they were earlier this year, and that may pull the plug on any hopes of a postseason run.
