Browns won't accommodate Baker Mayfield's trade request

The wacky saga that is Baker Mayfield's future with the Cleveland Browns took another turn on Thursday afternoon.

While the 2018 first overall pick is seeking a way out of Cleveland, it appears that the organization is not ready to move on.

The trade request comes amid the Browns' reported recent pursuit of Houston Texans controversial star quarterback Deshaun Watson. Cleveland is apparently out of the running for obtaining Watson, who has reportedly narrowed his choices to the Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints.

On Tuesday, Mayfield seemingly said goodbye to Browns fans via social media, but it appears those within the organization may be planning for him to remain the club's "QB1" while on the fifth-year option attached to his rookie contract worth $18.858 million. Mayfield registered a 60.5% completion percentage with 3,010 passing yards, 17 passing touchdowns and 13 interceptions in 2021.

The former Oklahoma standout missed three games due to injury last year but threw for 3,563 passing yards and 26 touchdowns with a career-low eight interceptions and had a career-best 95.9 quarterback rating in 2020.
