Kyle Larson is one of the top drivers in NASCAR, but he's still getting the hang of open-wheel cars.
Larson — a 2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion — was racing in the 109th Indianapolis 500 on Sunday. (He was also scheduled to race in the Coca-Cola 600 in NASCAR in Charlotte, N.C., at 6 p.m. ET.)
After a restart on Lap 92 of the race, Larson's car spun out of control, crashing into the outside wall on Turn 2 and wrecking with Kyffin Simpson. Fox analysts Townsend Bell and James Hinchcliffe noted Larson's car skidded when he downshifted.

"I got loose and kind of all over the place," Larson said on the Fox Sports broadcast (h/t Scott Horner and Christopher DeHarde of The Indianapolis Star). "Just hate that I got a little cutesy on that restart before the crash."
It didn't appear Larson would win the event after he started in 19th. He was 16th before the accident and finished 27th.
Larson finished 18th in the 2024 Indy 500. This season, he had struggled throughout qualifying, crashing twice during practice.
Larson's two Indy 500s are the only IndyCar races of his career. If he had more experience, a driver of his skill level would fare better at the famous race.
