Bruce Arians 'wouldn't be surprised' if Tom Brady gets contract extension

The idea of Tom Brady playing into his late 40s used to be a joke about the quarterback's incredible longevity, but with the 43-year-old set to play in his 10th career Super Bowl Sunday, it is starting to seem like less and less of a ridiculous notion. When asked if he thought Brady might want a contract extension from the Buccaneers, head coach Bruce Arians said he would not be surprised.

"I don't have anything to do with contracts, so that would be a Jason (Licht) question," Arians said. "I think Tom's real happy with where he's at, and I wouldn't be surprised."

Brady is currently only under contract for next season, but given how great he has looked this year, it seems entirely possible that he could be in line for an extension with his new team. After all, throwing for 40 touchdowns while leading a team to its first playoff appearance in over a decade is pretty spectacular for anyone, let alone a quarterback with two decades of experience under his belt.

It certainly sounds like Brady is on board to keep playing well beyond 2021. He recently said "would definitely consider" playing past 45, the age he previously declared he hoped to be playing until. The biggest challenge Brady is likely to face in trying to reach his late 40s as a starting NFL quarterback is his health, as you have to assume his body is going to be unable to handle the toll of playing professional football at some point, right?
