Brutal JaMarcus Russell-fueled stat magnifies Raiders' offensive struggles this season

The Las Vegas Raiders' offensive struggles this season may have reached a low point in the 26-14 loss to the Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football in Week 8. While the loss was by less than two scores, the stats and eye test told much more of the story when it comes to the lack of offensive production and consistent struggles this team is facing.

Not only were the Raiders outgained 486 to 157 in the loss, they were 1-for-9 on third downs and 0-for-3 on fourth-down conversion attempts. Las Vegas' managed just 3.5 yards per play, just over half of the Lions' final mark of 6.0 yards, and aside from a Josh Jacobs rushing touchdown in the first half, the team's lone points in the second half came on a 75-yard pick-six by Marcus Peters.

Following the game, Josh Dubow of the Associated Press unveiled a brutal stat to show just how rough it's been for the Raiders offense this season, citing that their 117 offensive points are only slightly better than the fewest since 2008 — when JaMarcus Russell was the starting quarterback.

The quarterback position will remain a talking point over the coming days, as Jimmy Garoppolo struggled mightily during the loss. He completed just 10-of-21 passing attempts for 126 yards and one interception. Star wide receiver Davante Adams finished the night with just one catch for 11 yards and was overthrown badly on two potentially huge plays, either of which could have resulted in a long touchdown.
