Raiders' Jimmy Garoppolo misses Davante Adams on two wide-open passes

To say that Monday night's loss for the Las Vegas Raiders to the Detroit Lions was a painful offensive performance would be an understatement.

The Raiders defense held the Lions to just three points in the first quarter, and neither team scored a touchdown until the second quarter. Even still, Detroit led 16-7 after halftime following a late Jared Goff-to-Sam LaPorta touchdown pass.

While the Raiders' stats will tell the entire story and then some, two specific missed throws by Jimmy Garoppolo to Davante Adams in the fourth quarter essentially summed up the night for this unit, and specifically the quarterback play.

The first one shown certainly could have been a 60-yard score to cut the lead to 26-21 with over four minutes remaining. The second (shown in reverse order of when they happened) had the potential to be a 98-yard touchdown with just under 10 minutes remaining in the game and a chance to cut the lead at that point to 26-21 as well.

The two attempts were tough to watch, as he overthrew Adams on both plays, with the potential 98-yard touchdown (or at the very least, a huge gain), flying out of bounds. Garoppolo's stat line didn't look much better, as he completed just 10-of-21 passes for 126 yards and one interception while posting a quarterback rating of 46.9.

Garoppolo's ineffectiveness led to a miserable box score showing for the Raiders in the receiving category, as no single player had more than 27 yards or two catches. Running back Josh Jacobs led the way with exactly two grabs for 27 yards, and there wasn't another Raiders player with more than 19 receiving yards. Here's a look at the final receiving numbers for the team:

  • Josh Jacobs: 2 catches, 27 yards
  • Jakobi Meyers: 1 catch, 19 yards
  • Michael Mayer: 1 catch, 19 yards
  • Austin Hooper: 2 catches, 19 yards
  • Hunter Renfrow: 2 catches, 19 yards
  • Ameer Abdullah: 1 catch, 12 yards
  • Davante Adams: 1 catch, 11 yards

Things couldn't have gone much worse for the Raiders, and the fact they only lost this game by 12 has to make it even worse, as they could have stolen a huge win on the road in primetime on Monday night.
