The Tampa Bay Buccaneers running game has not faired all that way so far through three games, but the room might be getting a boost here in the near future as the team announced on Monday that they have designated sixth-year veteran Chase Edmonds to return from injured reserve.

Edmonds has seen limited action since joining the Buccaneers, posting just four carries for a total of 20 yards (5.0 ypc). He could have seen his role expand, however, he went down in Tampa Bay's second game of the season against the Chicago Bears with a Grade 2 MCL sprain that ultimately landed him on the injured reserve list.

In his stead, backup running backs Sean Tucker and Ke'Shawn Vaughn have attempted to fill his role but have been unsuccessful in doing so.

Thus far through six games played, the Buccaneers own one of the worst rushing offenses in the NFL. They currently rank 29th in the league in rush yards per game (77.8) and second-to-last in yards per rush (3.1). Getting a guy like Edmonds back who not only is a veteran but also can take advantage of the Bucs' run scheme would be a huge lift to a struggling run game.

The Buccaneers will now have a 21-day window to fully bring Edmonds back into the fold in practice.
