Buccaneers GM Jason Licht: Tom Brady extension is a possibility

Before Super Bowl LV, Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady admitted that he'd "definitely consider" playing beyond age 45. After winning his seventh championship, Brady said he wasn't going anywhere and would return for the 2021 season.

However, his future with the Buccaneers beyond next season is uncertain. Brady is entering the final year of his two-year, $50 million deal, so he'll need a new contract to continue playing beyond 2021.

According to Jason Licht, an extension for Brady is in the cards. The Buccaneers general manager admitted as much during an appearance on the "Rich Eisen Show."

"It's a possibility," Licht said. "He certainly didn't look like he slowed down any this year. That's a possibility and we'll have to see how that goes. It appears that he really had a good time this year winning the Super Bowl. Likes our organization, likes our coaches, likes our head coach and ownership and we certainly love him. Usually when you have those two things going for each other, it's a match made in heaven so we'd like to keep this going."

Brady had one of the best seasons of his career in 2020, completing 65.7% of his passes for 4,633 yards and 40 touchdowns against 12 interceptions. He struggled before the Buccaneers bye week, going 7-5. After that, the team didn't lose a game, going 8-0, including playoff games.

If Brady wants to continue playing past 2021, it seems like the Bucs are willing to keep him around, provided he continues to produce at a high level. If he wins another Super Bowl title next season, there's a real possibility he sticks around.
