Buccaneers' Todd Bowles dances around question about Tom Brady's divorce

Understandably, Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles was asked Friday about quarterback Tom Brady going through a divorce in the middle of the NFL season.

Bowles may have said plenty without saying much at all.

"This is not a new or a different type of deal for a lot of people in the world," Bowles responded to a question about Brady's much-publicized marital issues, per Greg Auman of The Athletic and Tzvi Machlin of The Spun. "You're going to have this, whether you're a billionaire or whether you're broke. You're going to have ups and downs, deaths in the family, hard times. That's just part of life. You have to navigate as best you can and keep moving."

Bowles' non-answer followed Tampa Bay's 27-22 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday night that dropped his club to 3-5 on what's quickly becoming a disappointing season. Roughly 12 hours after the final snap of that game took place, Brady and wife Gisele Bündchen confirmed their divorce after 13 years of marriage.

From just a football standpoint, Brady has left much to be desired with his play. The 45-year-old was a legitimate Most Valuable Player for the 2021 season, but ESPN stats show he's 11th among eligible quarterbacks with a 92.4 passer rating and 18th with a 49.5 total QBR on the current campaign. Meanwhile, Tampa Bay is tied for 23rd overall in scoring and averaging 18.3 points per game.

Former New York Giants quarterback and Super Bowl champion Phil Simms recently said Brady had caused "distractions" for the Buccaneers with his 11-day preseason absence presumably related to his personal life and the fact that he missed a team walk-through to attend the wedding of New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft earlier this month. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler noted before Friday's developments that "eight months of relentless Brady headlines" must've had some impact on Tampa Bay's locker room throughout the year.

The Buccaneers next host the Los Angeles Rams on Nov. 6.
