Buccaneers' Tom Brady thankful Bills OC Ken Dorsey threw 'temper tantrum'
Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady became the subject of criticism when he was spotted violently throwing a sideline tablet as his offense struggled during what became a 20-10 win at the New Orleans Saints.
That incident was largely overshadowed, though, when Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey experienced what some may call a meltdown at the conclusion of this past Sunday's 21-19 loss to the Miami Dolphins.
Per Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, Brady discussed such emotional outbursts during Monday's edition of his "Let's Go!" SiriusXM show and podcast with broadcaster Jim Gray.
"I’m not the only adult in the entire league that’s throwing temper tantrums," the seven-time Super Bowl champion sarcastically remarked. "So thank you, Ken, for taking me off the hook."
Brady admitted to understanding exactly how Dorsey felt at that moment.
"Well, there’s so much emotion. You feel like you’re in a battle out there and it’s a physical battle and it’s just so, I mean, you’ve got to get the emotion out and I know it should be poised and yeah, there’s moments and sometimes it just boils over," Brady explained. "I’d rather have it boil over on the sideline than on the field, you know? And sometimes it’s a little bit of both. . . . Sometimes our emotions get the best of us and you’ve got to live with it for the rest of your life. So that’s OK. It’s better to have that feeling and emotion because it feels like you’re alive. You know, you could be dead and not feel anything. So I choose to be alive and feel everything."
As Alaina Getzenberg pointed out for ESPN, Dorsey addressed his viral flip-out while speaking with reporters Monday.
"I'm up in the box, I'm watching my guys down there just give us everything they possibly have in 'em with effort and from start to finish, playing 90-something snaps in the game," Dorsey said. "And it was a playoff atmosphere, a lot of credit to the Miami Dolphins, and obviously we weren't on the winning end of it so it's frustrating that I reacted that way, and obviously that's something that I'm definitely going to learn from.
"And I don't ever want to take the passion out of the game, we're all in this to win football games obviously for the Bills, for our fans, and we're going to give them everything we got, but it's something I'm gonna learn from and make sure let's correct moving forward."
Brady, Dorsey, and others would do well to remember that the NFL has threatened to fine personnel if they damage any league-issued equipment via actions fueled by refusing "to take the passion out of the game."
