The Buffalo Bills’ strategy to bolster their wide receiver corps in the 2024 NFL Draft became evident, and they executed it on Friday night.
Opting for the first pick of the second round, Buffalo secured the talents of Florida State standout Keon Coleman. With the departure of key wide receivers Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis in the offseason, Coleman’s addition is poised to provide an immediate impact for the Bills.
Newly drafted, Coleman swiftly received a warm welcome from quarterback Josh Allen, marking the beginning of their on-field partnership.
“He texted me the day of and was like, ‘You’re the guy I want. I watched a lot of receivers and I want to play with you.’ And I’ve been saying the same thing. I want to play with the guy that wears number 17. I think he’s a great quarterback, one of the best in the league right now and I would love to be catching passes from him. I’m ready for that.”
Buffalo’s path to selecting Coleman involved trading down twice in the first round before ultimately making the pick at No. 33 overall.
Standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 213 pounds, Coleman boasts an impressive track record as an All-ACC performer, tallying 11 touchdown receptions for Florida State in the previous season.
Expected to join forces with Khalil Shakir and Curtis Samuel, Coleman forms a formidable starting trio of wide receivers for the Buffalo Bills. Meanwhile, the competition for additional roles among players like Mack Hollins, Andy Isabella, Justin Shorter, and KJ Hamler promises to add depth and dynamism to the Bills’ receiving corps.
It will be interesting to see how the duo of Josh Allen and Keon Coleman play together during the young receivers rookie season.
