A Buffalo Bills linebacker announced his intention Thursday to retire from the NFL after spending nine seasons in the league. The move came in Week 3 as the 1-1 Bills prepare to play the Washington Commanders on Sunday.

According to Mike Garafolo with the NFL Network, linebacker Christian Kirksey told the Bills he is retiring after nine seasons in the NFL.

The Cleveland Browns drafted Kirksey in the third round of the 2014 NFL Draft. He recorded 778 total tackles, 16.5 sacks, 18 passes defensed and seven interceptions in his career.

Kirksey made 94 starts during his nine seasons in the league. He spent time with the Green Bay Packers and Houston Texans. The Texans released Kirksey at the end of training camp this year.

The Bills signed him to their practice squad for this season.
