The Byrce Young-led offense of the Carolina Panthers had a pretty miserable campaign in 2023-24. Despite the young quarterback showing flashes of brilliance throughout his debut season, the fact of the matter is that the Panthers still finished with a 2-15 record, which is literally the worst standing in the entire NFL.

To a certain extent, Young’s lack of weapons could be blamed for the team’s struggles last season. As such, it would not be a complete surprise if this team made some major changes on offense ahead of the new campaign.

Should Carolina Panthers Cut Miles Sanders?

According to Joseph Person of The Athletic, one man who could see himself forced out of the equation is Pro Bowl running back Miles Sanders. The former Philadelphia Eagles star signed with the Panthers via free agency last summer, and he wasn’t exactly able to live up to the lofty expectations.

With Carolina expected to clear up cap space this summer, Sanders could emerge as one of the biggest casualties.

“Sanders was the only running back to sign a multiyear contract in free agency, which came at the urging of former running backs coach Duce Staley. But after Reich and Staley were fired in November, Sanders’ playing time dwindled as the Panthers used Chuba Hubbard as their featured back,” Person wrote.

It is worth noting, however, that cutting Sanders before June 1 would actually create an additional $2.75 hit on Carolina’s cap space, so any moves on the 26-year-old will likely come after the said date.

Hayden Hurst Could Be on His Way Out As Well

Hayden Hurst is another player that could be on his way out. Like Sanders, the 30-year-old tight end also arrived last summer as a big-name free agent signing. Hurst was far from exceptional in his debut season.

He failed to establish a significant role for himself on the squad before suffering a season-ending concussion. Hurst could be a potential trade candidate as well if the Panthers are able to find a partner willing to take a risk on the former South Carolina standout.
