What does the future hold for embattled Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz? Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Carson Wentz prime candidate for Colts' QB job, but Frank Reich might not want him?

Philip Rivers announced his retirement from the NFL on Wednesday in an interview with The San Diego Union-Tribune's Kevin Acee , leaving many questions about what the Indianapolis Colts plan to do at quarterback.

Speculation has begun that the Colts may target Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz, who could end up requesting a trade from the franchise if they plan to use Jalen Hurts as their starter in 2021.

However, it appears Colts head coach Frank Reich might not be interested in a reunion with Wentz, according to Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Reich worked as Philadelphia's offensive coordinator in 2016 and 2017 before becoming head coach of the Colts in 2018. Reich helped Wentz lead the Eagles to an 18-11 record and a Super Bowl title in those two seasons.

Since Reich left for Indy, Wentz and the Eagles have struggled offensively. This season, in particular, was awful for the 28-year-old. In 12 games, the North Dakota St. product went 3-8-1, completing 57.4%  of his passes for 2,620 yards and 16 touchdowns against 15 interceptions. Wentz's picks led the NFL, as did his sacks (50).

The Eagles reportedly "have every intention" to keep Wentz and "have him be a major part of their team," according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Philadelphia has even been telling head-coaching candidates they plan to keep Wentz onboard for the 2021 season. So it seems like a reunion with Reich is off the table, anyway.

Still, nothing is impossible, and the Colts need a quarterback. We'll have to wait and see how the situation plays out this offseason.
