CB Buster Skrine tells Titans he's retiring
It appears the Tennessee Titans will not have veteran cornerback Buster Skrine among their active players as they begin preparations for the upcoming NFL season.
Per Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk, Tennessee head coach Mike Vrabel confirmed during his Tuesday press conference that Skrine informed the organization he has decided to retire.
"So, respect that decision. Really respect Buster as a person, as a player," Vrabel explained during his comments. "But he made a decision, which he felt like was best for him and his family and we’ll respect that and support him however we can."
Skrine, who turned 33 years old in April, originally signed with the Titans last November and appeared in six regular-season games, along with the postseason loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Including the playoff matchup, Skrine accumulated a total of 18 tackles, an interception and three pass breakups with Tennessee.
The Titans re-signed Skrine this past March.
Skrine initially entered the NFL when the Cleveland Browns made him a fifth-round choice during the 2011 draft. Across stints with the Browns, New York Jets, Chicago Bears, San Francisco 49ers and Titans, he recorded 590 career tackles with 10 interceptions, six forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, 88 pass breakups, 3.5 sacks and 16 tackles for loss over 158 regular-season games and 95 starts.
