Chad 'Ochocinco' Johnson names best WR duos in NFL

When Chad "Ochocinco" Johnson speaks, people usually take notice. That was the case this week when the Cincinnati Bengals legend named which teams have two No. 1 wideouts.

Johnson thinks only three teams fit the criteria: the Bengals, Philadelphia Eagles and Miami Dolphins.

The Bengals have Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, the Eagles have DeVonta Smith and A.J. Brown, and the Dolphins have Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.

Here's a look at the combined stats from each duo last season.

  • Chase/Higgins: 161 receptions, 2,075 yards, 16 receiving touchdowns
  • Smith/Brown: 183 receptions, 2,692 yards, 18 receiving touchdowns
  • Hill/Waddle: 194 receptions, 3,066 receiving yards, 15 receiving touchdowns

One of the most interesting things about this list is all three teams made the playoffs last year, with the Eagles appearing in the Super Bowl. While defense can win championships and it's good to have a stout running game, an attacking passing game usually increases a team's chances of winning exponentially.

Ochocinco is correct in his assertion that these teams have two wideouts who can be considered  No. 1s, but where he may miss the mark is limiting it to just the Bengals, Dolphins and Eagles. The Buccaneers have Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, the Chargers have Keenan Allen and Mike Williams, and the Seahawks have DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. It's fair to call these players all No. 1 receivers as well.

The NFL is in a good place with as much receiving talent as there's ever been across the board, and there's a good chance a new WR duo emerges that isn't currently on anyone's radar of being near the top. That's how football works — things are always fluid, and each season brings surprising triumphs. Still, it's hard to go wrong with Ochocinco's list. After all, he knows a thing or two about the position after hauling in 766 receptions for 11,059 yards and 67 touchdowns during his career.
