The Los Angeles have plenty of new faces around their franchise after hiring Jim Harbaugh as their new head coach. Their starting running back in 2024 will probably be a new face, too.

According to NFL insider Adam Schefter, Ekeler is not expected to be franchise tagged by the Chargers.

This move would back up recent reports regarding the Chargers' desire to move in a new direction at RB. They may look at a younger option to start alongside quarterback Justin Herbert.

New offensive coordinator Greg Roman hinted to this possibility in a recent discussion with beat writers as well. He gleamed at the idea of a top-end running game for Herbert. That seemingly meant that the staff does not think that Ekeler provides that in the NFL anymore.

For Ekeler, it will be a fresh start. He has clearly lost a step over the past couple of years, but he has still produced in total numbers.

Expect Los Angeles to look at other options at RB in free agency and the 2024 NFL Draft.
