Chiefs activate star safety Tyrann Mathieu from reserve/COVID-19 list

The Kansas City Chiefs activated star safety Tyrann Mathieu from the reserve/COVID-19 list Saturday, making him eligible to play in the team's season opener against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.

Mathieu is listed on the Chiefs' official injury report as questionable after missing a full week of practice.

Since joining the Chiefs in 2019, Mathieu has missed just one game — Week 17 of the 2020 campaign when Kansas City had already locked up the top playoff spot in the AFC.

The 29-year-old had six interceptions, one fumble recovery, 62 tackles and nine passes defended in 15 games last season. He is a two-time First-Team All-Pro with the Chiefs and a one-time Pro Bowler.

Before joining the Chiefs, Mathieu played for the Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans.

Even if Mathieu doesn't play Week 1 against the Browns, the Chiefs are the betting favorite to win, according to DraftKings Sportsbook.
