Chiefs hopeful Patrick Mahomes will be ready by June after toe surgery
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback and one-time NFL Most Valuable Player Patrick Mahomes injured a toe during the playoff victory over the Cleveland Browns on Jan. 17.
As Adam Teicher wrote for ESPN, the Chiefs are hopeful that Mahomes will be recovered from the toe surgery he had on Feb. 10 to participate in June minicamp sessions.
"It's a three-month recovery, so we're hopeful [Mahomes returns] somewhere around that mandatory minicamp, if we have it," Chiefs general manager Brett Veach said on Monday. "We certainly think by training camp he'll be ready to go and we'll be smart with him."
Veach added that starting tackles Mitchell Schwartz and Eric Fisher are on track to return for the start of training camp following operations. Schwartz recently had a procedure done on his back, and Fisher had surgery to fix his torn Achilles tendon on Jan. 29.
"I would probably say Pat's ahead of them just because of that type of injury and a quicker recovery," Veach explained. "Hopefully we'll have all three ready to go by training camp."
Mahomes missed the final quarter and a half of the win over Cleveland while in the concussion protocol but returned to help Kansas City defeat the Buffalo Bills and earn a trip to Super Bowl LV, where the Chiefs fell to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
