Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes joins ownership group for NWSL's Kansas City Current
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is once again expanding his sports portfolio.
As ESPN's Adam Teicher explained, the Kansas City Current of the National Women's Soccer League confirmed Tuesday that Mahomes has joined the club’s ownership group. His wife, Brittany Mahomes, was already part of the team's ownership group along with co-founders Chris and Angie Long.
"We are so thrilled to make this a family affair and have Patrick join as an owner," Brittany Mahomes said for the official club release. "He has been a huge supporter behind-the-scenes. His passion for the Current is undeniable and I am glad that he will be with us as we continue on our journey to become the best in the NWSL."

The club completed its inaugural season in 2021.
Before Tuesday's development, Patrick Mahomes had stakes in the Kansas City Royals of MLB and Sporting Kansas City of Major League Soccer. It was reported last month that he and tennis superstar Naomi Osaka were part of an ownership group investing in a new Major League Pickleball team.
Back in January 2022, the Chiefs QB told Teicher that his long-term goal was to become "one of the majority owners" of a top-flight sports franchise, ideally one located in Kansas City.
"I would always keep my options open, but I've always tried to go with Kansas City first," Mahomes said. "That's the biggest thing for me. You look at things like trying to find a way to bring an NBA team to Kansas City, try to do stuff like that [or] a hockey team, all of that different type of stuff. I would definitely say my first option would be to try to do something in Kansas City and at the last resort, if that didn't work, I would try to figure out maybe something else."
New York Giants legend Eli Manning, James Harden of the Philadelphia 76ers and Kevin Durant of the Brooklyn Nets are also among the big-name sports figures who currently own pieces of NWSL clubs.
