Chiefs TE Travis Kelce breaks Jerry Rice playoff record

With seven receptions in the first half of Sunday's AFC Championship game Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce broke Jerry Rice's longstanding record for most career playoff receptions. Kelce's catch late in the second quarter gave him 152 playoff receptions, one more than Rice.

Not only did Kelce break Rice's record, he did it in just his 21st career playoff game and all for the same team.

Rice caught his passes in 29 games for three different franchises (San Francisco, Oakland and Seattle).

The only other player in NFL history with more than 100 postseason receptions is former New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman, who caught 118.

Kelce's record-setting number happening in only 21 games is a testament not only to his dominance and the chemistry he has developed with Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, but also how much more of a pass-happy league the NFL is compared to when Rice played during his peak years.

Along with setting the playoff record in the first half of Sunday's game, Kelce also caught his 19th career playoff touchdown. That number is second on the all-time list, leaving him just three behind Rice's 22.
