Heading into the offseason, the Kansas City Chiefs faced a significant dilemma. They recognized the imperative of avoiding another contract standoff with their standout defensive tackle, Chris Jones. Consequently, they opted against risking the franchise tag on him. Instead, they utilized it on cornerback sensation L’Jarius Sneed.

Amid speculation of a potential trade, Sneed unequivocally expressed his desire to remain with the Chiefs. This sentiment was underscored by teammate Travis Kelce, who advocated for Sneed’s retention during a podcast segment.

“We still got L’Jarius Sneed, baby. Still early in the offseason baby, just stay right there.”

The value Sneed brings to Steve Spagnuolo’s defensive scheme is widely acknowledged by his teammates. His departure would undoubtedly deal a severe blow to the Chiefs’ aspirations of securing a third consecutive championship.

Sneed has made it clear that he is disinclined to play under the franchise tag and has been granted permission to explore trade opportunities. Despite reported interest from several teams—including the Tennessee Titans, Detroit Lions, Indianapolis Colts, and Atlanta Falcons—no deal has materialized with the Chiefs.

Regrettably, discussions regarding a contract extension between Sneed’s representatives and the Kansas City Chiefs have yet to commence. As things stand, L’Jarius Sneed appears destined to remain at Arrowhead Stadium solely by virtue of playing under the franchise tag.

Hopefully for the Chiefs and their fans, Travis Kelce will end up getting his wish.
