Christian McCaffrey makes team history in second game with 49ers

After the San Francisco 49ers acquired running back Christian McCaffrey from the Carolina Panthers in exchange for multiple draft picks, some argued that the team paid too much.

Those arguments can be put to rest.

On Sunday, McCaffrey proved his worth, becoming the first player in 49ers' history to record a receiving, rushing, and passing touchdown.

McCaffrey is the first player since 2005 to pull off the trifecta. The last to do it? Hall of Famer LaDainian Tomlinson.

McCaffrey started his big day with his arm. With the 49ers trailing the Rams 7-0 in the second quarter, McCaffrey caught a backward pass from quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo before launching it down-field to Brandon Aiyuk for a 34-yard touchdown.

Late in the third quarter, McCaffrey helped San Francisco take a 17-14 lead over the Rams, snatching a Garoppolo pass out of the air for a nine-yard touchdown.

McCaffrey secured his spot in NFL history, tallying a one-yard rushing touchdown early in the fourth quarter and sealing the 49ers win.
