Colts desperately need the old Jonathan Taylor, who could return vs. Titans

Newsflash: The Colts need the old Jonathan Taylor.

After rushing for a league-leading 1,811 yards and 18 TDs in 2021, Taylor has yet to make a major impact this season. Prior to missing the past two games with an ankle injury, the All-Pro back had rushed for 328 yards on 81 attempts (24th in NFL) and one touchdown.

Taylor completed his first full practice Thursday after being limited Wednesday, and there is "optimism" he will play in the big Week 7 game at Tennessee. His return to form is critical for the Colts to get their running game on track and taking command in the AFC South.

Per Akeem Glaspie of the Indianapolis Star:

Thursday Taylor took handoffs from quarterback Matt Ryan and made low-effort cuts during the open portion of practice. After taking a few handoffs, Taylor did some work with resistance bands before participating in pass catching drills.

Against Tennessee in Week 4, a 24-17 Colts loss, Taylor rushed for a season-low 42 yards and lost a fumble.

The Colts have struggled to open lanes for Taylor to exploit and have become a pass-heavy team with first-year Indianapolis QB Ryan. Consequently, Taylor has had fewer opportunities to showcase his talent, per NFL Network's James Palmer.

The Colts (3-2-1) trail the division-leading Titans (3-2). If they're to overtake Tennessee and make a postseason push, they'll need Taylor and the running game to return to form.
