The Indianapolis Colts are confirmed to bring back wide receiver coach Reggie Wayne for the 2023 season. The franchise legend made the announcement on Tuesday afternoon from his own Twitter account.

This was a grey area for many, as the offense for Indianapolis wasn’t the best in the passing department. However, this can’t entirely be placed upon such a young receiver group that consisted of then-rookie Alec Pierce and other green players like Ashton Dulin and Parris Campbell. The latter played healthy for the first time in his career. Michael Pittman Jr. still had a good season, too, with all things considered.

The problem was mostly with the blocking and quarterback play, as Indianapolis couldn’t get efficient protection up front or consistent play from any one of the three quarterbacks (Matt Ryan, Sam Ehlinger, and Nick Foles) at any point in 2022.

Now, with a fresh offensive mind like Shane Steichen commanding the play-calling, it will help Wayne blossom with these receivers and get the utmost production out of each. Also, with a new offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter and line coach Tony Sparano Jr. coming to Lucas Oil Stadium, it looks like a solid staff is being built around Wayne that will help him get the receiving game on track.

This is a good move for Indianapolis to put a Hall of Fame caliber former receiver in the coaching role again to keep stability. This also gives Wayne the chance to shine with consistency around him in the coaching and quarterback roles. Indianapolis fans were calling for this hire. They can now rejoice knowing #87 isn’t going anywhere.
