The Indianapolis Colts are signing linebacker Austin Ajiake to the practice squad to add depth and to prep for the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Colts announced the addition on X: “We have signed LB Austin Ajiake to the practice squad.”

With linebacker Segun Olubi being limited in practice with a hip injury, this could be specifically why Ajiake was brought onto the squad.

While the UNLV product wasn’t selected in the 2023 NFL Draft, he was signed by the Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent and spent training camp with the club. Ajiake has also seen time on the Green Bay Packers and Raiders' practice squads this season. Now, Ajiake has an opportunity with the Colts to showcase his talents and the limited experience he’s had in the league.

Ajiake isn’t a household name at all, but the Colts have used the practice squad to put effective players on the roster like WR D.J. Montgomery and RB Tyler Goodson. So, there’s always a chance that a practice squad signing can be more than just a skilled name to give looks throughout the week.

We will see if anything else happens with Ajiake outside of being put on the practice squad and if he can help the defense finish off the 2023 regular season. Ajiake may also be able to give insight to Shane Steichen's offense because he spent time on the Raiders practice squad earlier in the season.

The Colts are now in must-win mode for the final two contests after being bludgeoned by the Atlanta Falcons and will look to conclude at 10-7 with a playoff spot.
