Colts WR shares concerning recollection of brutal hit
Indianapolis Colts wideout Michael Pittman Jr. shared his recollection Friday of the illegal hit he took from Pittsburgh Steelers safety Damontae Kazee during the team's Week 15 contest.
While Pittman Jr. cleared the concussion protocol on Friday, some of his words may cause concern among fans.
"I honestly never saw him coming," the Colts leading receiver said, per ESPN's Stephen Holder. "I was diving, I caught it, and then all of a sudden, I woke up and there's people looking down at me. I was like, 'Oh, s---, what just happened?"
Pittsburgh's defensive back was ejected from Saturday's game. The NFL then announced on Monday that it was suspending Kazee without pay for the rest of the regular season as a result of the hit to the head.
Pittman Jr. also discussed how emotional things were with his family members following the win against the Steelers, noting that he didn't "grasp how significant it was" until he watched a replay.
"I remember sitting in my locker and then my wife came in crying, my daughter was crying. And that's the first time that I was like, 'Maybe this was bad,'" the fourth-year pro said.
The 26-year-old Pittman Jr. has been one of the focal points of the Indianapolis offense since his breakout 2021 campaign when he set career highs in receiving yards (1,082) and receiving touchdowns (six). He leads the Colts this season in targets (143), receptions (99), receiving yards (1,062) and receiving touchdowns (four).
