The Washington Commanders are asking fans to help them add 10 players to their “90 Greatest” list that will commemorate the franchise’s 90th anniversary. The team is looking to add to the previously established “80 Greatest” list.

When fans logged into the website, commandlegacy.com, over the weekend to vote there were two glaring omissions. Both quarterback Robert Griffin III and left tackle Trent Williams weren’t on the initial list.

Fortunately, the team recognized the mistake and have corrected it, adding both Griffin and Williams to the Monday morning.

“Your feedback over the past 48 hours has been heard, and we appreciate your passion,” the Commanders said in their updated Twitter post.

Some can argue for the omission of Griffin. He had one amazing season in 2012 as a rookie. But injuries and inconsistent play led to him ultimately being permanently benched for Kirk Cousins by 2015.

But it’s a hard sale to ignore the contributions of Williams. Nicknamed the “Silverback” Williams played nine seasons in Washington at a high-level. He’s arguably the lone Hall of Fame talent the team drafted in the past 15 years.

Unfortunately, Williams left on bad terms with the team following a squabble with former team president Bruce Allen and the former athletic trainer that even Ron Rivera couldn’t fix once he took over in 2020.

The Commanders traded Williams to the San Francisco 49ers in 2021.

Still, that doesn’t allow Washington to leave Williams off. Kirk Cousins made the initial list. Therefore there was no possible way fans would accept not seeing Williams.

There were a number of other errors on the legacy website. The Washington Post’s Jake Russell highlighted those errors via Twitter.

Leaving off Griffin and Williams from the options for the “90 Greatest” was the biggest error of all. Now, fans truly have the best possible list of names to choose from.
