Cowboys activate Zack Martin, put Michael Gallup on IR, add Randy Gregory to COVID-19 list

The Dallas Cowboys mixed some good news with some bad news and an expected move on Monday.

Per Rob Phillips of the Cowboys' website, Dallas activated six-time Pro Bowl right guard Zack Martin and backup offensive lineman Brandon Knight off the reserve/COVID-19 list, added starting defensive end Randy Gregory to that list and placed wide receiver Michael Gallup on injured reserve.

Both Martin and Knight missed last Thursday's season-opening loss at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers because of the NFL's COVID-19 protocols, and ESPN's Todd Archer reported Gregory tested positive for the coronavirus. It's unknown if Gregory, who is asymptomatic and vaccinated, will produce two negative virus tests 24 hours apart to be cleared to play in this coming Sunday's matchup at the Los Angeles Chargers.

It was learned Friday that Gallup was set to miss multiple games due to the calf strain he suffered Thursday night. A player on IR must sit out a minimum of three contests before he can return to action per league rules for the season.

Cedrick Wilson tallied three catches for 24 yards at the Buccaneers and will take Gallup's spot in the lineup.

Additionally, the Cowboys will be without starting right tackle La'el Collins for the next five games after he was suspended for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy. It's possible Martin could start at the position for at least Sunday's contest.
