Cowboys' Dak Prescott not in top 10 for most accurate NFL quarterbacks?

For an article published Monday morning, ESPN NFL analysts Matt Bowen, Tim Hasselbeck, Mina Kimes, Matt Miller, Jordan Reid, Louis Riddick, Mike Tannenbaum, Seth Walder and Field Yates got together with Aaron Schatz and Derrik Klassen of Football Outsiders to "rank their personal top 10 NFL quarterbacks entering the 2022 season in 12 distinct categories, from arm strength to field vision."

For example, Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills ranked No. 1 in arm strength. Reigning NFL Most Valuable Player Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers was named the most accurate thrower who can "hit the tightest windows" and put "passes in the perfect spots." Somewhat surprisingly, Dallas Cowboys starter Dak Prescott did not make the piece's top 10 for overall accuracy.

"Prescott not being in the top 10 is a glaring omission," Riddick noted. "His NFL Next Gen Stats completion percentage above expectation and number of big-time throws (as measured by Pro Football Focus) are both in the top 10."

According to ESPN stats, Prescott completed 68.8 percent of his throws last season, good for fourth among eligible signal-callers. Only Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow (70.4 percent), Kyler Murray of the Arizona Cardinals (69.2 percent) and the previously mentioned Rodgers (68.9%) finished higher in that category for the campaign.

"The perception of Prescott's accuracy suffers greatly from one or two bizarre misses per game," Schatz and Klassen added. "Aside from those small handful of off-target throws, Prescott is largely an accurate quarterback, particularly with regard to placing the ball away from defenders over the middle of the field. He isn't quite in the elite tier of QB accuracy, but he fits somewhere in the back of the top 10."

Prescott was ranked ninth for "touch," No. 10 for "mechanics," eighth for "field vision," tied for fifth in "decision-making with the football," tenth for "complete level" of "competitiveness and leadership," tenth for "toughness," seventh for "pocket presence," ninth for "designed-run ability," and No. 10 for "second-reaction ability" by the panel.
