Cowboys' Dak Prescott not on any 'pitch count'

Dallas Cowboys starting quarterback Dak Prescott raised eyes on Wednesday when he completed 11 of 12 passes during his first 11-on-11 action since July 27 as he works to get back to 100% from the shoulder strain he first suffered late last month.

According to Todd Archer of ESPN, Dallas offensive coordinator Kellen Moore told reporters Thursday that Prescott is no longer on any "pitch count" moving forward.

"We’re just playing ball at this point," Moore added. "We’re not looking at anything from a limitation standpoint. ... From his standpoint, we’re getting ready for the regular season and Tampa Bay."

Prescott was always likely to be held out of Sunday's preseason finale against the Jacksonville Jaguars even though he's wanted to experience in-game action this month after his 2020 season ended in October when he suffered a gruesome compound fracture and dislocation of his right ankle. While that wasn't meant to be for the 28-year-old, it's believed he's still on track to start when the Cowboys open the regular season at the Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sept. 9.

Cooper Rush is set to start at quarterback for Dallas versus Jacksonville on Sunday.
