Cowboys' Dak Prescott reacts to Jalen Hurts contract, Lamar Jackson saga

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has reacted to Philadelphia Eagles starter Jalen Hurts receiving a massive contract as Baltimore Ravens star Lamar Jackson still waits for his desired deal.

"Yeah, congratulations and I’m proud of him," Prescott said of Hurts during an appearance on "The Adam Schefter Podcast," as shared by the Dallas Morning News. "I hosted Jalen on a visit way back at Mississippi State years ago and I’m a fan of the guy and the way he plays the game. Not a fan of his team and when they have success necessarily, but a fan of him and the way that he approaches it. He’s somebody that was counted out early because of his playstyle and just has had success, trusted himself, and trusted in the process. Proud of him and he deserves every bit of the money."

It was learned on Monday that Hurts and the Eagles reportedly agreed to a five-year extension worth up to $255M with $179.3M guaranteed.

To compare, Prescott and the Cowboys put pen to paper on a four-year contract that could be worth more than $160M with $126M in guaranteed money back in March 2021. As Todd Brock of Cowboys Wire/USA Today explained, Dallas restructured Prescott's deal for salary-cap purposes last month, but the agreement nevertheless still has "an escape clause" for the club after the upcoming season.

Meanwhile, Jackson remains on the franchise tag after he reportedly rejected an offer that included $200M in total guaranteed money. The one-time NFL Most Valuable Player allegedly wants more than the $230M in fully guaranteed cash Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson received last year.

"I support everybody, and I support those guys getting their money and doing that," Prescott said about Jackson's situation, per Chris Novak of The Comeback. "Hopefully, he’s next, and he tops Jalen, and that’s just the way it goes. It’ll happen for him."

For what it's worth, there's currently no indication Jackson will be "next" as it pertains to cashing in beyond the $32.416M franchise tender for 2023.
