Cowboys sign QB Dak Prescott to four-year, $160 million contract

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott won't be playing under the franchise tag for a second straight year or hitting free agency.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network and multiple other outlets, Prescott and the Cowboys have come to terms on a four-year contract that could be worth more than $160 million when all is said and done. The deal includes $126 million in guaranteed money and carries a no-trade clause:

ESPN's Adam Schefter also added that the agreement carries a no-tag clause.

The two-time Pro Bowl signal-caller who turns 28 years old in July began the 2020 campaign playing under the franchise tag and then suffered a horrific and gruesome ankle injury against the New York Giants on Oct. 11. That setback ended his season and left many observers presuming the Cowboys would go in a different direction and allow Prescott to test free agency when the new NFL year opens on March 17.

That won't be the case.

"The Dallas Cowboys agreed to terms on a new contract with quarterback Dak Prescott on Monday," the club announced on Monday in a statement shared by Grant Gordon of the NFL's website. "Further information and details will be released at a formal press announcement on Wednesday."

Previously, Pro Football Focus predicted that Prescott would sign a four-year contract worth up to $158 million with $115 million in guaranteed money and $75 million fully guaranteed upon putting pen to paper on the agreement.
