Cowboys owner Jerry Jones to WR CeeDee Lamb: 'Beat double coverage'

In a Week 1 loss to the Buccaneers, Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb struggled as the team's No. 1 receiver. On Friday, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones made it clear he expects more from the former first-round draft pick.

“You’ve got to catch balls covered,” Jones said on KRLD-FM. “Every team in the league is faced with the same thing. They’re going to have their best receiver double-covered. What the best receiver should do is play through that coverage.”

Against Tampa Bay, Lamb grabbed two of 11 targets for 29 yards and struggled to break double coverage.

“Throughout the game, I was so pissed,” Lamb said in a news conference Thursday.

The Cowboys offense didn’t do Lamb any favors. Quarterback Dak Prescott, who left the game with a right thumb injury in the second half, went 14-for-29 for 134 yards. Prescott may miss four to six weeks with the injury.

Dallas head coach Mike McCarthy acknowledged the offensive problems, but he’s not sure how they can create a solution for Lamb.

“This is the world CeeDee is living in now,” McCarthy said in a Wednesday news conference. “He’s going to get all of the attention."

Lamb admitted not having receivers Michael Gallup, who's rehabbing a knee injury, or Amari Cooper, who was traded in the offseason to Cleveland, makes it harder to adjust.

“Having three No. 1s out there, it makes a difference," Lamb said.
