Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott celebrate Brace Hemmelgarn-USA TODAY Sports

Cowboys QB Dak Prescott shares thoughts on reunion with RB Ezekiel Elliott

Quarterback Dak Prescott and running back Ezekiel Elliott were both part of the Dallas Cowboys' 2016 draft class.

They spent seven seasons together before Elliott was released by Dallas last offseason. The veteran running back would move on to play for the New England Patriots this past season.

However, after the Cowboys were unable to land a capable running back in free agency or the 2024 NFL Draft, a reunion made too much sense.

Elliott signed a one-year contract with Dallas on Tuesday and Prescott has since revealed what it means to have his former teammate back.

"Super excited. Just obviously knowing our history, my experience with him as a brother, but, in this case, as a teammate, understanding what he brings to the team," Prescott said, via Lawrence Dow of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "Just the locker room alone, the culture he sets, a guy that does everything the right way from, from the locker room to the field."

Elliott should be able to have an impact on the field from Day 1. Before the 28-year-old re-signed with the Cowboys, their running back room was highlighted by Rice Dowdle (an undrafted free agent in 2020) and Deuce Vaughn (a sixth-round pick in 2023).

It is unlikely Elliott will be a three-down back like he was earlier in his career, but he still proved to have some gas left in the tank last season.

During the 2023-24 campaign, the three-time Pro Bowler rushed for 642 yards and three touchdowns. He also caught 51 passes for 313 yards and two touchdowns.

Only time will tell what Elliott looks like heading into his ninth season in the league, but Dallas is hoping its younger players will benefit from his experience and veteran leadership at the very least.

As for Elliott, he is clearly happy to be wearing the star once again but is focused on one thing.

"We've got unfinished business," Elliott told reporters. "I'm here to chase a ring."
