Cowboys reportedly 'likely' to release four-time Pro Bowl WR Amari Cooper by start of new league year
The Dallas Cowboys are reportedly getting ready to cut ties with one of the premier wide receivers in the NFL in a serious cost-saving effort.
The fourth overall pick by the then-Oakland Raiders in the 2015 NFL Draft, Cooper just wrapped up his third full season in Dallas. The 27-year-old was traded from the Raiders to the Cowboys in October 2018 for a 2019 first-round pick and will have a "major market," according to Yates, if he is indeed released.
Cooper has made four Pro Bowls during his seven-year playing career and has five 1,000-yard seasons to his credit. He finished the 2021 campaign tied with tight end Dalton Schultz for the team lead in receiving touchdowns (eight), second to CeeDee Lamb in receiving yards (865), tied with Schultz for second in targets (104) and third with his 68 catches.
In March 2020, the Cowboys signed Cooper to a five-year, $100 million contract extension.
